Softball Game Preview: Cyprus Pirates vs. Box Elder Bees

For the second straight game, Cyprus will face off against Box Elder. The Pirates will face off against the Bees at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Cyprus has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cyprus heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. They came up short against Box Elder, falling 15-0. The shutout was out of character for the Pirates seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

For Box Elder's part, Lucy Braegger looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Braegger has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kailee Hall was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Olivia Daniels was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Box Elder was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Box Elder's record now sits at 24-3. As for Cyprus, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 15-13 record.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Cyprus hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Box Elder struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs.
