Calhoun has gone a perfect 6-0 against Adairsville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will face off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Calhoun has given up an average of 27.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Calhoun is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took a 52-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cambridge two weeks ago. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on September 5th (35), the Yellow Jackets still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Trace Hawkins, who threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 30 yards and one score. Justin Beasley was another key receiver, picking up 186 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 2.2 yards per carry. The team can thank Blake Hammett for the heroic effort on defense: he. Calhoun didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.1.
Meanwhile, Adairsville's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past LaFayette with points to spare, taking the game 27-10. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Ramblers: they've now won six in a row.
Adairsville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Colton Sanford, Jake Barszcz, and Gatlin Fair picked up one apiece. Barszcz got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Calhoun's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. As for Adairsville, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Calhoun has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 430.5 total yards per game. It's a different story for Adairsville, though, as they've been averaging only 228.2 total yards. Will Calhoun be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Tigers flip the script?
Everything went Calhoun's way against Adairsville in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as Calhoun made off with a 24-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellow Jackets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
