Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past the Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes to the tune of 42-12. Fans of the Miners have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cory Aspinwall, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Those 112 rushing yards gave Aspinwall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Verrett, who rushed for 133 yards and one TD.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 374 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 201 rushing yards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cayden Harju and Verrett. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: Verrett posted at least 106 rushing yards in the fifth games prior. Another thorn in Lake Linden-Hubbell's side was Matthew Switzer, who picked up a sack, forced two fumbles, and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield]'s record is now 7-0. As for Lake Linden-Hubbell, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.

Looking ahead, Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] will challenge North Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Miners will need to watch out since the Jets have now posted at least 31 points in their last five matchups. Lake Linden-Hubbell has already played their next contest (against Bessemer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
