Baseball Recap: Nelson County Starts Season with Win at Home

Nelson County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They skirted past the Buffalo Gap Bison 12-11. The Governors haven't had any issues with the Bison recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

George Knight was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Knight was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, Sawyer Jackson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Knight, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Buffalo Gap now has a losing record of 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nelson County will face off against Amherst County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Buffalo Gap, they will be playing at home against Rappahannock at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
