Basketball Recap: Unaka's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After a string of nine wins, Unaka's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The contest between them and the North Greene Huskies didn't end well, with the Unaka Rangers falling 50-33. The Rangers were probably out for revenge after losing 61-35 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Unaka's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michelle Shields, who posted nine points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kalli Shepard, who scored seven points and six rebounds.

Unaka's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for North Greene, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3.

Unaka and North Greene should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Unaka will take on Johnson County at 6:30 p.m. on Monday up 194 places (127 vs. 321). Unaka is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. Similarly, North Greene (ranked 99th) will meet Cherokee (ranked 328th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
