Baseball Game Preview: Northgate Broncos vs. Campolindo Cougars

The Northgate Broncos will take on the Campolindo Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Northgate 1.7, Campolindo 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Northgate is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against San Mateo on Saturday. They fell just short of the Bearcats by a score of 3-2.

Northgate got a good showing from Max Carlos, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Carlos has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Blayne Ballard made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Campolindo entered their match against Pittsburg on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Campolindo fell just short of Pittsburg by a score of 7-6.

Jack Luster was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Campolindo's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Northgate, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northgate has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Campolindo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Northgate might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Campolindo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Northgate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
