Softball Recap: Penobscot Valley Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Penobscot Valley had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let the Bangor Christian Patriots get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. The Howlers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

Lauren Veino made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Veino was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Austin, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lila Cummings, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Bangor Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Penobscot Valley is taking a road trip to take on Stearns at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Bangor Christian, they will host Sumner at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
