Basketball Recap: Jonah Powers Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Santa Fe

Saint Francis Catholic Academy had won four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they bumped up to 4-0 to make it five. They secured a 49-45 W over the Santa Fe Raiders. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 59-40 loss the last time these two teams met.

Saint Francis Catholic Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonah Powers, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 16 points. Powers has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Liam Banks, who posted 13 points and four steals.

As for Santa Fe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3. Raiders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Saint Francis Catholic Academy since Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, Santa Fe had strong showings from Ethan Iannarelli, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 13 points and three blocks, and Isadore Foreman, who went 5-for-7 en route to 12 points. Thanks to that strong game, Iannarelli now owns an excellent 41.7% three-point shooting accuracy. Jayvin Williams also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Saint Francis Catholic Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-41 victory against Lake Weir on the 6th. As for Santa Fe, they have also already played their next matchup, a 42-33 loss against Buchholz on the 4th.
