Basketball Recap: Oxford Starts Season with Win Against Central of Clay County

Oxford gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 61-32 victory over the Central of Clay County Volunteers. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-19.

TaKayvia Boyd was a one-woman wrecking crew as she dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Savannah Carter, who shot 60% from the field en route to 16 points and three steals.

Oxford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Central of Clay County lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Blair Wheeler, who posted six points. Lashanti Ward was another key player, putting up five points.

Looking ahead, Oxford will take on Smiths Station at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Central of Clay County, they will challenge Anniston at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
