Recap: Banneker Bulldogs vs. Banneker Academy
The Banneker Bulldogs came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Banneker Academy with a sharp 69-44 victory. Considering Banneker has won four games by more than 24 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Leading Banneker to victory were Rainelle McNeill and Promise Njoku. McNeill scored 17 points along with three steals, while Njoku scored 21 points along with four blocks. McNeill continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaziah Charles, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Banneker's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Banneker Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Banneker won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against North Stafford at 2:30 p.m. on December 29th. North Stafford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 141st in Virginia, while Banneker is ranked eighth in District of Columbia). Banneker Academy will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Coolidge at 3:00 p.m. on December 30th.
