Aransas Pass was the 6-4 winner over Mathis when they last played one another on Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 8-7 on Friday.

Isaiah Vasquez was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Aransas Pass' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-14 when he doesn't).

Aransas Pass has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Mathis, they pushed their record up to 4-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
