Football Recap: Portal Comes Up Short

Portal had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-6 to make it six. They took a blow against the Screven County Gamecocks, falling 42-7. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Gideon Fulcher threw for 129 yards and one touchdown on only nine passes. Brian McQueen was his top target, picking up 101 receiving yards and one score. On the ground, Josh Coleman rushed for 26 yards.

As for Screven County, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Gamecocks, who have now won eight contests by 20 points or more so far this season.

AB Hilton produced another solid effort rushing for 169 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Looking ahead, Portal will be playing in front of their home fans against McIntosh County Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Screven County, they will head out to square off against Emanuel County Institute at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' defense has only allowed 15 points per game this season, so the Gamecocks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
