Baseball Recap: Itasca Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Itasca barely beat Italy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Itasca was the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over Italy on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wampus Cats, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Buddy Jackson and Dawson Mears were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Jackson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Mears pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Jackson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Mears scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Mears a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Brayden Mears was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jacob Gurrusquieta was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Itasca always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .513 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Itasca pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.4 runs over those games. As for Italy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
