Baseball Recap: Northfield Takes a Loss

Northfield had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it four. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northwestern Tigers. The Norsemen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

Korbin Haupert made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As for Northwestern, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

On Northwestern's side, Hayden Cook was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chase DeWitt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Northfield will face off against Whitko at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Norsemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. Northwestern has already played their next matchup (against Logansport), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
