Shrine Catholic is 6-1 against Clawson since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Shrine Catholic is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Shrine Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Mott. They had just enough and edged out the Corsairs 5-4.
Caydin Barbato was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jackson Poulton, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Clawson made easy work of Ferndale on Tuesday and carried off a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 15 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Shane Dunlap made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Clawson got a massive performance out of Elliott Groves, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Jackson Hein was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Clawson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.
Clawson is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 20 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-7-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Shrine Catholic, their record is now 16-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Shrine Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clawson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Shrine Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Clawson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
