Centauri extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 8-1. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 20-18 victory over the Monte Vista Pirates. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered a 36-26 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sean Jarvies threw for 74 yards and one TD. On the ground, Leland Chacon rushed for 54 yards.

As for Monte Vista, they moved to 6-3 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. They gained 195 more yards on the day, but it was Centauri that made the best use of them.

When it comes to explaining why Monte Vista lost, don't look at Kelby Mondragon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 51 receiving yards. Mondragon also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making seven total tackles and defending one pass. Azariah Hurtado was in the mix as well, providing Monte Vista with two scores.

Centauri and Monte Vista are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Falcons will be playing at home against North Fork at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Monte Vista, they will venture away from home to square off against Colorado Springs Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Pirates 9, the Lions 13.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
