Volleyball Recap: Huntsville Hornets vs. Rudder Rangers

Huntsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rudder Rangers. The Hornets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rangers earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Huntsville started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 16-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 15-9.

Rudder can attribute much of their success to Riley Wilson, who had 12 digs and three aces. Those 12 digs gave Wilson a new career-high. Makayla Gulley also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Huntsville's loss dropped their record down to 17-24. As for Rudder, their victory ended an 11-match drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 14-24.

Huntsville and Rudder could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Hornets will challenge Lake Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (445 vs. 157). Meanwhile, Rudder (ranked 688th) will meet A&M Consolidated (ranked 56th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
