Preview: Hi-Plains Patriots vs. Lone Star Longhorns
The Hi-Plains Patriots and the Lone Star Longhorns will face off at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Hi-Plains focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Hi-Plains, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-37 loss to Briggsdale. Hi-Plains has not had much luck with Briggsdale recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Hi-Plains' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caelan Church, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, and Brooklynn Henschel who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for Church. Another player making a difference was Cloe Smith, who scored four points along with five steals.
Hi-Plains struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Lone Star unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They were beaten by Prairie 62-34. Lone Star was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-10.
Hi-Plains' defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Lone Star, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Everything came up roses for Hi-Plains against Lone Star when the teams last played back in February as the team secured a 63-36 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hi-Plains since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
