Recap: Casa Roble Rams vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks
The Casa Roble Rams had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 70-57 win over Mesa Verde. Given Casa Roble's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 394th, while Mesa Verde is ranked 1311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Casa Roble got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ace Villegas out in front who scored 20 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Villegas posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Travis Remly, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Several Mavericks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maanav Shergill, who scored 17 points. The game was Shergill's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Garcia, who scored 15 points.
Casa Roble is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Mesa Verde, they bumped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Casa Roble will take on Dixon at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mesa Verde, they will be playing at home against Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pioneer is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
