Hazelwood West is a perfect 6-0 against Ladue Horton Watkins since August of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Rams at 4:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hazelwood West's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Maplewood-Richmond Heights with a sharp 15-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won seven games in a row.
Taylor Lee and Allisan Cafolla were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Lee tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cafolla pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Lee went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Cafolla went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Cafolla has posted since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, Mia Boschen was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mariah Thomas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Hazelwood West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Ladue Horton Watkins made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hazelwood Central on Thursday. The Rams blew past the Hawks 15-0. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.
Caroline Moore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Moore was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colette Brennan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Ellie Goebel, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Hazelwood West's record now sits at 14-4. As for Ladue Horton Watkins, their record is now 9-7.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hazelwood West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Ladue Horton Watkins struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Hazelwood West's way against Ladue Horton Watkins in their previous meeting back in August, as Hazelwood West made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
