Arvada West had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They had just enough and edged out the Cherokee Trail Cougars 59-56. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars on Thursday, too.

Arvada West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cooper Vais led the charge by shooting 50% from the field on his way to 18 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Noah Meurer was another key player, putting up 11 points and five steals.

Arvada West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherokee Trail only pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.

Cherokee Trail's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Ayon, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Jensen, who put up 13 points and four steals.

Cherokee Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Arvada West has already played their next game, an 81-58 victory against Golden on the 5th. As for Cherokee Trail, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 97-78 win against Highlands Ranch on the 5th.
