Basketball Recap: Emily Danburg's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Axtell over Overton

Axtell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a 51-35 bruising from the Overton Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-35 back in December of 2024.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily Danburg, who posted 11 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Danburg a new career-high in field goal percentage (67%). Bristol Thorell was another key player, going 5 for 10 to rack up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Daisy Ryan was nothing short of spectacular for Overton: she dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Jillian Clark also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Overton, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Axtell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-17 defeat against Ansley/Litchfield on the 6th. As for Overton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 43-37 loss against Wilcox-Hildreth on the 6th.
