Basketball Recap: Lakewood Takes a Loss

Lakewood lost against North Duplin on February 4th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Lakewood Leopards took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Duplin Rebels.

Despite the loss, Lakewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Areona McKoy almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine steals. McKoy is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jahmai Rich was another key player, putting up four points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Lakewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matchups.

North Duplin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tateyawna Faison led the charge by dropping a double-double with 12 points and 25 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Rose, who posted 15 points.

Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 18-4. As for North Duplin, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

As of now, neither Lakewood nor North Duplin have any future games scheduled.
