Softball Recap: Webster County Comes Up Short

Webster County lost against Christian County back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Trojans lost 8-2 to the Colonels. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Chloe Papineau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kennedy Warren made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Olivia Chandler was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Webster County now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Christian County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Webster County will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Hopkins County Central at 6:00 p.m. The Storm have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.18 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Christian County, they are taking a road trip to square off against Union County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.88 runs per game on average), something the Colonels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
