Softball Recap: Catholic Beats Peninsula Catholic for Their Third Straight Win

Catholic extended their winning streak to three on Monday, bumping them up to 9-9. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Peninsula Catholic Knights. Considering the Crusaders have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Gia Kalapinski, who gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Peninsula Catholic off the board. Kalapinski has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Catholic got a massive performance out of Scarlett Blakeley, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Blakeley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Reaume, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As for Peninsula Catholic, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Peninsula Catholic's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Dent, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Peninsula Catholic, they will face off against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
