Baseball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

Cumberland's last matchup with Nottoway could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Thursday. The Dukes lost 12-5 to the Cougars. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ayden Brodie was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brett Dalton, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Nottoway, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will head out on the road to challenge Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Nottoway, they will welcome Brunswick at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
