Basketball Recap: Monroe Central Comes Up Short

Monroe Central fought the good fight in their overtime game against Daleville on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 77-73 to the Broncos. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (65), the Golden Bears still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Monroe Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abe Ervin dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ervin is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 56% in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Charlee Morris, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 18 points and seven boards.

Daleville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Pratcher led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. Those 27 points gave Pratcher a new career-high. Addisyn Gothrup was another key player, going 7-for-14 en route to 22 points along with five boards and four steals.

Monroe Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Daleville, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe Central will welcome Muncie Burris at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Daleville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Centerville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
