Softball Recap: Cambridge Bluejays vs. Marshall Cardinals

Cambridge extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They came up short against the Marshall Cardinals, falling 10-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 back in April.

As for Marshall, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

For Marshall's part, Kennedy Weisensel was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Weisensel has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Sydney Stuntebeck was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Kierstin Hoel was another key player, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambridge will welcome Columbus at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Marshall, they will be playing at home against Poynette at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pumas will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
