Baseball Recap: Taft Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Taft, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Amundsen Vikings a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Vikings on Monday, they had to take a 6-2 defeat.

The result came thanks to Carlos Gonzalez's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Taft is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 10-13 otherwise.

At the plate, Wes Blitz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Taft's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 9-14 when he doesn't). Evan Jocic was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Taft now has a winning record of 15-14. As for Amundsen, their loss dropped their record down to 6-19.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wheaton Academy at 4:30 p.m. on the 20th. As for Amundsen, they will face off against Fasman Yeshiva at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Amundsen will need to watch out since Fasman Yeshiva has now posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
