Basketball Recap: Mater Brickell Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Marcos Colio and Antonio Medina

Mater Brickell Academy lost against Archbishop Carroll on January 6th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Mater Brickell Academy Bulls fell 50-41 to the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs. While the Bulls didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 9-5 in the first quarter.

Mater Brickell Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Antonio Medina, who went 5 for 10 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, and Marcos Colio, who posted 12 points and five boards. Medina is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sergio Murtinho, who put up two points and six assists.

Archbishop Carroll's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Seepersaud led the charge by putting up 16 points. Those 16 points gave Seepersaud a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Marquez, who scored eight points along with six boards and three steals.

Mater Brickell Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Archbishop Carroll, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Mater Brickell Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Pinecrest Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop Carroll has already played their next contest (against IMG Academy Regional), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
