Baseball Recap: Coventry Gets the Win

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Coventry and Springfield, and Coventry kept the tradition alive. The Comets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Spartans on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Comets: when they faced off against the Spartans back in April, they had to take a 6-3 defeat.

Cody Basinger was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Snyder, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Coventry's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 4-16 when he doesn't). Brandon Graham was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coventry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Coventry's record is now 8-18. As for Springfield, they dropped their record down to 5-20 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road.

As of now, neither Coventry nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
