Recap: Monacan Chiefs vs. Richmond City School of the Arts Bulldogs
The Monacan Chiefs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 27 points or more this season. They took their game on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 63-24 win over Richmond City School of the Arts. With Monacan ahead 33-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Monacan was led to victory by Layla Ellett and Junithia Seay. Ellett scored eight points along with nine rebounds, while Seay scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Autumn Smith, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Richmond City School of the Arts saw an underclassman step up: Laylianah McBrayer scored 23 points. McBrayer scored a full 95.8% of Richmond City School of the Arts' points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Monacan pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Richmond City School of the Arts, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monacan will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Clover Hill at 7:15 p.m. on January 16th. Clover Hill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 194th, while Monacan is ranked 24th). As for Richmond City School of the Arts, they will head out on the road to face off against Midlothian at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Midlothian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
