After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mater Dei, Breese Central was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Roxana Shells 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 25-7 on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Taylor Trame, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Karli Thole, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Breese Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Breese Central's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. As for Roxana, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Breese Central and Roxana could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Cougars will square off against Columbia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (414 vs. 67). Meanwhile, Roxana (ranked 513th) will meet Salem (ranked 35th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
