Basketball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Vikings vs. Layton Lancers

The Pleasant Grove Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Layton Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Pleasant Grove is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Corner Canyon last Friday. Pleasant Grove fell 55-48 to Corner Canyon.

Meanwhile, Layton played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 65-34 loss at the hands of Copper Hills. The Lancers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-14.

Pleasant Grove will need focus on slowing down Hadley Collier, one of several Layton players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 11 points. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Thurgood, who put up four points.

Layton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Pleasant Grove, their record is now 4-7.

Pleasant Grove strolled past Layton in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 57-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pleasant Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
