Basketball Recap: Hooper Bay Takes a Loss

Hooper Bay was the 71-34 winner over Lumen Christi when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Hooper Bay Warriors lost to the Lumen Christi Archangels at home by a 62-48 margin on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Archangels are ranked 94th).

When it comes to explaining why Hooper Bay lost, don't look at Billy Smith. Despite the final result, he posted 22 points. Michael Hoelscher was another key player, putting up ten points.

This is the second loss in a row for Hooper Bay and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Lumen Christi, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season.

While Hooper Bay had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
