Softball Game Preview: William Byrd Terriers vs. Staunton River Golden Eagles

William Byrd is 0-10 against Staunton River since May of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Terriers will challenge the Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, William Byrd came up short against Franklin County and fell 6-2. The Terriers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Staunton River). They blew past Northside 18-2 on Friday. Considering the Golden Eagles have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordyn Booher was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Alexis Coles was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

Staunton River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Staunton River's third in a row) raised their record to 15-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for William Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

William Byrd couldn't quite get it done against Staunton River in their previous matchup back in April as they fell 11-8. Can the Terriers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
