Fletcher gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Yulee Hornets 80-48. The Senators not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since December 17, 2024 (when they won 72-33).
Kenny Matty was a one-man wrecking crew as he went 8-for-15 to rack up 23 points and seven assists. Those 23 points gave him a new career-high. Xavier Carmichael was another key player, shooting 86% from the field on his way to 12 points and five boards.
They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Fletcher was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They racked up ten more assists than Yulee's also-impressive total of 11.
Yulee's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Newby, who went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Valdez, who posted eight points and six rebounds.
Yulee's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Fletcher has already played their next contest, a 50-35 win against Fernandina Beach on the 19th. As for Yulee, they will be playing at home against Bolles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
