Basketball Game Preview: Hooper Bay Warriors vs. Cordova Wolverines

The Hooper Bay Warriors will take on the Cordova Wolverines in a tournament on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Hooper Bay is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their contest on Saturday with ease, bagging an 81-37 win over Alakanuk. The Warriors pushed the score to 55-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the Braves had little chance of recovering from.

Hooper Bay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Hoelscher, who posted 20 points. The dominant performance gave Hoelscher a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Billy Smith, who earned 20 points.

Meanwhile, Cordova strolled past Delta with points to spare last Saturday, taking the game 50-35.

Cordova's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Hooper Bay, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Hooper Bay came up short against Cordova in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 49-38. Can Hooper Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
