League recap: Mullen beats Sandhills/Thedford in tight affair

D2 District 9 (8 Man) recap October 1, 2013

Mullen and Sandhills/Thedford played the closest game in D2 District 9 (8 Man) this week, with Mullen eventually emerging with a 26-20 victory. Lance Moore ran for 93 yards in the win.

South Platte fell to Garden County 72-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Odenbaugh was a bright spot for the Blue Knights, as he ran for 103 yards in the defeat.

Tristen Jackson was a passing and rushing force as the Eagles topped South Platte.

Odenbaugh was a key player and the best on defense this week as Ken Bartels' team fell to Garden County. He.

Jackson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 138 yards on 7 carries as Jason Spady's team lost to the Broncos. Layne McCarthy also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.

Sandhills/Thedford's Jacey Nutter and Lee have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Nutter has thrown for 337 yards this season, while Lee, a 6-foot-5 receiver, has 15 catches for 175 yards. Gideon Monette from Mullen leads the league in rushing with 431 yards.

A big matchup in D2 District 9 (8 Man) this week will be when Josh Deines' team takes on the Eagles. As it stands, the Knights are in third, while Garden County is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when Sandhills/Thedford and the Eagles face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Knights comes in having scored 108 this season, while Garden County has scored 218. Sandhills/Thedford scored 20 points last week as it lost to Mitch Pfeiffer's team.

The Eagles led the league in scoring this week by notching 72 points on the Blue Knights. Jackson ran for 138 yards during the win.
