Baseball Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. Basic Wolves
Foothill is 0-10 against Basic since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Foothill Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Basic Wolves at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Foothill: 3.8, Basic: 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Last Thursday, Foothill faced Shadow Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Foothill fell just short of Shadow Ridge by a score of 5-4.
Foothill got a good showing from Makoa Elliott, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
At the plate, Thayne Watson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. Landon Angelo was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Basic put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They never let Liberty onto the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for Basic who now have five in a row.
Basic also got a great performance from Lincoln Evans as he didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Evans has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Ty Southisene was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Tate Southisene, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a double.
Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6-1. As for Basic, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-3.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both team's pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Basic struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
