Basketball Recap: Marshall Takes a Loss

Marshall lost against Harlan back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Marshall Rams were beaten by the Harlan Hawks 92-57. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 644th, while the Hawks are ranked 114th).

Marshall's loss came despite strong showings from Jai Lopez and Liam Curry. Lopez went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points and eight boards, while Curry posted 13 points. The dominant performance also gave Curry a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Adam Camacho, who put up nine points.

Elijah Moore was the offensive standout of the match as he had 22 points. Amoni Francis was another key player, putting up ten points.

Marshall has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-19 record this season. As for Harlan, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.

Marshall is taking a road trip to square off against Brennan at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Brennan has 12 straight victories, Marshall has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court. As for Harlan, they will be playing at home against Holmes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Harlan is facing Holmes at the right time seeing as Holmes is stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
