Baseball Recap: Seymour Wins Going Away Against Cocke County

Seymour's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cocke County Fighting Cocks an 11-0 shutout. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Eagles this season.

Not much got past Drew Childress, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Cocke County off the board. Childress also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Seymour is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Seymour let Brown Austin and Reece Wilson run wild. Austin scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5, while Wilson scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs Austin has posted since back in March of 2024. Coby Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Seymour now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Cocke County, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Seymour will have a chance to go back-to-back against Cocke County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
