Recap: Yorktown Patriots vs. George C. Marshall Statesmen
The Yorktown Patriots were the 35-0 winner over the George C. Marshall Statesmen when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Yorktown fell just short of George C. Marshall by a score of 35-33. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (31), Yorktown still had to take the loss.
Yorktown's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Hudson Greene, who threw for 139 yards and three touchdowns while completing 91.7% of his passes. Michael Merritt also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Sam Morales was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 227 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Morales is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Derek Lenert, who picked up 79 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Yorktown's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for George C. Marshall, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5.
Yorktown will take on Herndon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Herndon is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. George C. Marshall does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
