Football Recap: Brandon Howard and Armond Weston Lead the Defense for Palmetto Win

Bishop Verot came into Thursday's matchup looking for another win against Palmetto, but Andre Bailey wouldn't allow it. The Panthers walked away with a 20-10 victory over the Vikings on Thursday thanks in part to Bailey, who threw for 191 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one rushing score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Palmetto's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Palmetto's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. The heavy lifting was done by Brandon Howard and Armond Weston, who racked up five sacks between them. With that strong performance, Howard is now averaging an impressive 5.2 total tackles per game. Palmetto got some further help from Braylen Green: he made 16 total tackles.

Palmetto's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.7 points over those games. As for Bishop Verot, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Palmetto and Bishop Verot will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Panthers see the field they'll take on Coral Glades at 7:00 p.m. on the 13th. As for Bishop Verot, their break will end when they face Calvary Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
