It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Churubusco can now relate to. They and the Bluffton Tigers were almost perfectly matched up on Friday, but they suffered a 39-38 defeat. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Brody Lawrence threw for 56 yards and one TD. Weston Ott was his top target, picking up 29 receiving yards. On the ground, Grant Sievers rushed for 166 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bluffton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Axton Beste, who rushed for 56 yards and two scores, and also threw for 253 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 75% of his passes. That's the most rushing touchdowns Beste has posted since back in August. Cooper Craig was another key back, rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Churubusco's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Bluffton, their win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.
Churubusco does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bluffton, they will be playing at home against Adams Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Flying Jets have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
