Basketball Game Preview: Burke Bulldogs vs. Elkhorn South Storm

The Burke Bulldogs will face off against the Elkhorn South Storm at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Burke is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Burke is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Millard North on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Burke was dealt a 65-37 defeat at the hands of Millard North. The game marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn South's game on Saturday was all tied up 37-37 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of Millard South by a score of 70-67. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Patriots are ranked 21st).

Burke will need focus on slowing down Cooper Mroczek, one of several Elkhorn South players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 27 points and seven boards. Lincoln Schwarz was another key player, going 10 for 15 en route to 21 points and five rebounds.

Elkhorn South has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Burke, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Burke suffered a grim 72-52 defeat to Elkhorn South in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Schwarz, who went 11 of 12 on his way to 23 points and eight boards.
