Walden Grove hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wolves will square off against the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m.
Things were looking good for Walden Grove after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Ironwood Ridge by a score of 6-5.
Maddie Holzer was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. Natalie Holzer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 15-1 victory. The Blue Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.
Anyssa Pacho and Ashley Rosthenhausler made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Pacho struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Rosthenhausler tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pacho has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. At bat, Pacho went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Rosthenhausler went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Pacho has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Callie Fox was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Celeste Borboa also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .621. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Sunnyside's record is now 17-8. As for Walden Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walden Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Walden Grove suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Sunnyside in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
