Tulare Western is 2-8 against Tulare Union since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Tribe at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Tulare Western was handed a 41-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 22-21 photo finish over Lemoore.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tulare Western to victory, but perhaps none more so than Preston Seechan, who rushed for 135 yards and two TDs. The team also got some help courtesy of JUJU Hernandez, who threw for 220 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, Tulare Union took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-20 victory over Dinuba. The Tribe might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 29 points or more this season.
Tulare Western better keep an eye on Jordan Crisp. He was instrumental in Tulare Union's win, throwing for 228 yards and three TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Crisp has become a key player for the Tribe: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Tulare Union's leading receiver Demaje Riley was Crisp's top target yet again, picking up 131 receiving yards and one score.
One reason for the win was Tulare Union's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jordan Alexander, Sevyn Strong, and Osie Early, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Dinuba's side was Alexander, who picked up a sack and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Tulare Union's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points over those games. As for Tulare Western, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
