Softball Game Preview: Bishop Diego Cardinals vs. Coastal Christian Conquerors

Bishop Diego is 8-2 against Coastal Christian since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bishop Diego Cardinals will challenge the Coastal Christian Conquerors at 2:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Bishop Diego proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by 14) and last Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Santa Barbara 5-4. The victory was just business as usual for the Cardinals, who after three games remain undefeated this season.

Tara Gregson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gregson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Gregson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaymi Coronado, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Coastal Christian hadn't done well against Orcutt Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Coastal Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Orcutt Academy, sneaking past 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Bishop Diego's record is now 3-0. As for Coastal Christian, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Bishop Diego came up short against Coastal Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Bishop Diego avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
