Football Game Preview: Sterlington Panthers vs. St. James Wildcats

The Sterlington Panthers will challenge the St. James Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sterlington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-6 victory over Loreauville. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won seven matchups in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tj Burch and Xavier Stromile. Burch rushed for 132 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry while Stromile rushed for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries. Burch's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 132 rushing yards.

Sterlington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 404 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 171 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when St. James challenged Oak Grove on Friday. The Wildcats blew past the Tigers 57-13. With the Wildcats ahead 43-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.

St. James' victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Sterlington, their win bumped their record up to an identical 10-2.

Sterlington beat St. James 35-28 when the teams last played back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Wildcats' Kani King-Young, who rushed for 125 yards and two TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Panthers still be able to contain King-Young? There's only one way to find out.
